About this perennial

Allium Summer Beauty is a perennial plant that returns to your garden every year. This beautiful variety has lilac-purple flowers about 6 centimeters in size. The plant grows about 40 centimeters tall and is very nice both in a border and in a pot on the patio or balcony.

Location in the garden

The Allium Summer Beauty thrives in full sun, but partial shade is also acceptable. It prefers well-drained soil. If the soil is very firm or heavy, you can mix it with sand or compost to make it lighter and more permeable.

When planting, mix some fresh potting soil into the existing soil for some extra nutrients. Do not plant the Allium too deep. There should be a small layer of 2 to 3 centimeters above the ground.

The Allium Summer Beauty also does well in a pot. Make sure the pot is high enough, at least 30 cm. This way, the roots have enough space to grow. It is also important that the pot does not remain too wet and that water can drain well.

Care

Allium Summer Beauty is a perennial plant, unlike Allium bulbs. The underground part is therefore truly different and comparable to the rhizomes of other perennials.

It is an easy-to-care-for perennial. It does not spread aggressively, so you don't have to do much to it. In the autumn, you can cut off the faded flowers if you don't want the seeds to spread throughout the garden. Alternatively, you can cut them back in early spring. Then also give some organic fertilizer to stimulate growth. After flowering, the leaves remain beautifully green.

With a height between 40 and 50 centimeters, support is not necessary. It is well-resistant to frost, so no extra protection is needed in winter.
