We ship our field-grown plants as root tubers, also known as bare roots. These are the plants as they are harvested from the field. These plants are grown in the open ground instead of in a pot. For some plants, like peonies, this is the best way to grow a strong plant and to plant it in your garden. The plants come fresh from the field to you. They are not cut smaller to fit into a pot, and they are rinsed so that the chance of weeds being with the plant is very small. You are therefore planting a very strong, beautiful field-grown plant from Dutch soil.
STORAGE
The root tubers in your package are best planted on the day of receipt or the next day. Place the plants in a dry, cool place until you plant them.
If you want to store the plants longer, for example, due to frozen ground? Then unpack the root tubers and put them in a large container with moist soil so they don't dry out.
GET STARTED WITH YOUR PLANTS
1. Before you start, choose the right spot in your garden, depending on what the plant needs. You can always find this information on our website. One plant prefers a lot of sun, and another does not, so choose the spot carefully.
2. Fill a bucket with a layer of water and place your plant in it. The roots have not had water for a while during transport and can thus absorb it. Leave the plant in the water for half an hour and then take it out.
3. Dig a hole for your plant and mix in a layer of new garden soil or compost for nutrition. Place the plant in it, with the growing shoots upwards. Make sure there is about 5 centimeters of soil on top of your plant. For peonies, it is important that the plant is not planted deeper; for these plants, preferably maintain a planting depth of 3 cm.
4. Gently press down the soil and add some extra water on top. Do you keep a notebook with the different plants in your garden? Then don't forget to note which plant you placed where.
