About this perennial

Gillenia Trifoliata is a very nice perennial for the cutting garden or garden border. You do need some patience with this plant, as it is a slow grower. Plant it in your garden and preferably let it grow undisturbed for the first 3-4 years. After that, you'll have a wonderful plant for cutting. The delicate, star-shaped flowers on dark stems provide a beautiful contrast and look stunning in a cut bouquet, for example, with peonies.

Once given time, you will certainly enjoy this lovely plant, just like Rachel Siegfried, author of the book 'Flowering Perennials'. Gillenia trifoliata is one of her favourite perennials for the cutting garden.

    CARE

    Gillenia trifoliata is a slow grower. It takes 3-4 years for it to become a mature plant. Until then, don't pick too much from it, so the plant can grow well.

    Before planting, mix some fresh soil or compost into the ground for a nutrient-rich soil. In spring, remove old leaves or stems and apply some organic fertilizer.

    Divide the plant when flowering decreases and replant the young sections into the ground to keep the plant healthy.

    Best time to pick: When the flowers open. The branches and leaves are also nice to cut in autumn for an autumn arrangement.

    Plant Gillenia trifoliata in full sun or partial shade. Additionally, ensure the soil is moist but well-draining.

    Our P9 plants are available directly from stock. You can indicate in the shopping cart when you would like to receive your order.

    Are you also ordering peonies in pre-order in the same order? Then your order will be delivered in two packages. The peonies will be shipped between October 12 and October 25, 2026. You can choose a shipping week for the peonies during checkout; this will be indicated under the shipping method.
